    Spring has Sprung

Spring has officially sprung here in Niagara.  Nights are cool but we have had some fantastically unseasonably warm days. If I make myself very quiet and still I believe I can hear the magical hum strum of things growing.  What was a pale green hush on a tree yesterday is a vibrant green this morning.  White and pink blossoms stretch as far as the eye can see.  I take photo after photo of pink orchards, so many in fact that some of the photos are indistinguishable from one another.

As always, spring leads to an overall sense of well-being. We're reminded to seize something new, to grab at a fresh idea. Margie and I have been desperate to do something together so we're taking an e-course in Photoshop.  We're learning about layers and textures, hard lights and soft lights. It's great fun to take a breathtaking photo and make it even more perfectly breathtaking. Last time I was here I was accepting photo challenges, the peach blossoms are my gift to you today in honour of some of your suggestions, I loved tweaking it with some of my newly learned skills.

The change in season brings us out of our shells and we find ourselves socializing more. There have been dinners and visits with friends. I've managed to slip into our busy schedule a cross-border day trip with three girlfriends. It always feels so decadent to cross from Canada to the U.S., head for the mall and shop at Sephora, Macy's, Bed, Bath & Beyond and of course, Target!  We had  agreed that our day would not be complete without a smart lunch. Oh we were so fancy, our table draped with a crisp white cloth, flutes of prosecco and bowls of lobster bisque.  Yes, we were ladies who lunched and laughed.  Our conversation was light, no talk of work for us, the laughter was infectious and a tonic for the soul. Our trip to the cosmetics store lead us into the back, way back past the many mirrors, pounding music and vibrant glittery cosmetics to where the light was softer, the mirrors fewer and the shelves stacked with anti-aging products, miracle creams, serums and oils. There was much testing of lotions and potions and by the end of our day were thoroughly convinced we looked younger! Fabulous dahling, simply fabulous.

I have noticed a happiness and lightness in and around me lately.  I find myself in a state that is often elusive, a place where there is a rare fine balance of doing and being.  I am present in the moment, excited about future plans and best of all I'm laughing and smiling as my memory replays a luncheon with some fantastic ladies.

Sometimes the planets align, the peach blossoms bloom, the sun shines and everything is just so very very good.

    xo

And that is when you know that it IS the journey that counts. It is wonderful to have times like these, and be wise enough to recognize them while you are in them, to enjoy them as they happen.

so happy to hear about your days kath :). i can relate to the 'ladies who lunch' bit...a great friend of mine and i tried to do that last week - the 'tanzanian version' of it...not quite the same (no nice shops, not a great lunch, ummmmmmmm...so what was the same :) ). i love your description of spring...lovely to read on a day when we're starting to head towards winter and are currently in the midst of the long rains (lots of grey old days!!)

Don't you just LOVE textures and filters, Kath, and how transformative they can be! That's a good word, I think, for what you have described about your life in this moment. So once again the image and text are so perfectly aligned!

Oh, how I wish you lived just down the street instead of however many thousands of miles away - that's just too far. Sounds like a wonderful day with your friends. And fun with your sis, too, and the Photoshop class. Your image is fab!
