    dain bread

I am dain bread, I mean brain dead. Don’t laugh; I actually said that this morning right before the email arrived reminding me that it was my turn to post here on vision and verb.

Getting settled in a new home is unsettling at best!

What a whirlwind of a first week we have had in our new condominium.  Unpacking fifteen china barrels full of, you guessed it, china, determining which kitchen cupboard will hold the blue dishes, and what about the green china, and don’t forget the set with the bird on them.

It is so easy to underestimate the administrative tasks involved in moving, the phone calls, the change of address and the scheduling of deliveries to name just a few.  There are endless trips to the hardware store, the liquor store, the grocery store and our personal favourite, HomeSense, the local discount everything you ever wanted to buy for your home store.  It was day four when I realized that we were hemorrhaging money and the endless shopping had to be stopped.

Eventually the our home began to take shape and so we put the word out and within hours the family and friends start pouring through the door, the wine is pouring into glasses, the visitors are poring over your new digs.  One long weekend, my sister and her husband here for a two-day visit, three dinner parties, one brunch and only one catastrophe when I accidently turned on the blender full of tomato soup without the lid secured.

It was a great way to kick start this new chapter in our lives, with family and friends, even if you are left dain bread after the dust settles.  Tomorrow I will sleep!

You know, the nice thing about dain bread is it tastes good, even if you don't remember eating it. :)

Congratulations on your new digs; the little hint in the picture sure looks nice!

Man alive, Woman dead! If my place looked that spic-n-span after your so-called whirlwind, I'd wonder why I didn't move more often, Margie. CONGRATULATIONS. You clearly have settled in quite well for a "woman of a certain age." I'm darn-tooton' proud of you!

Congrats on the new digs! We moved the Monday after Christmas and are STILL waiting on furniture to be delivered and many of the pictures to be hung. Plus, there are far too many boxes in our garage. It looks to me that you are waaaaaay ahead of us!

2 words - immersion blender ... As the very bestest good sister ever, when margie's blender started spewing hot tomato soup all over the freshly painted walls, I yelled for help and let the others care for my sister while I scrubbed the soup off the paint. I know my sister's priorities! Her home is wonderful, I wanted to stay a week. We had so much fun.
    Love you
    K

I am happy to hear that you are settling in your new condo. It's a good feeling. And then the wine flowing and the festivities - how fun (even if there was a blender incident. Now can't wait to see more pictures of your new abode!

Congratulations on the new condo, Margie! I have a love/hate relationship with moving. I hate all the packing and unpacking, but I love the feeling of renewal and cleansing after discarding all the crap the builds up over time that just can't be parted with because it might come in handy in the near future, but then can never be found because it is crammed into the back of the closet with a whole bunch of other crap that can't be parted with. I think I'm gonna clean out my closets this weekend...after I finish my taxes.

    Your new home looks beautiful.

moving house is a nightmare, especially when animals involved (for me, that's always the toughest). i did have to chuckle at the thought of the tomato soup, no lid on the blender...ouch, bet that took some cleaning up :) hope you're feeling settled in your lovely new space.

Congratulations Margie, on this new step in your journey! As with Toni, I too have a love/hate relationship with moving and am abundantly grateful that my own recent move is complete. My ongoing issue however, is trying to remember what I gave away this move and what may actually still be hidden in a cupboard somewhere...and hopefully remembering before I purchase a potential duplicate and have more to give away...vicious cycle I tell ya!

Rest in the fruits of your labor and enjoy making your new condo your home!

    peace to you...

By the looks of it, you have done a great job on the new 'settlement'!
Congratulations on that, I wish you and all your loved ones a wonderful and brilliant time there!

As for the mixing up of words. I do that all the time, old habits and so on, they really never die! Hilarious situations do occur from time to time, due to this habit!!

Oh Man. We are just about to do this ourselves. I'm not looking forward to it. It's a catch 22 though because I am looking forward to being in the new place... hmmmm... But it feels like we JUST moved.... oh wait. We did. Last November.

You just never know what life is going to toss your way! ;)

love the photo, I think you handled the move well and I switch words like that all the time, it's what happens when your brain goes faster than your mouth, but always good for a laugh!
