One of the Gang
April 8, 2010
Argh! I have to write something here by the end of today that makes sense, is interesting, goes with god knows what photo, is funny, is gramatically and spellingly correct. Margie sat in this same spot on Monday. I sat with her and read quotes from a book, throwing out ideas, trying desperately to inspire her.
I like this, the pressure that is. It's a different kind of pressure from what I feel at work or the self-imposed pressure to keep the house spotless while we’ve got it up for sale. When my sister reported being brain dead the other day and unable to come up with any words, I understood what she meant, but I also knew that when I opened this site the next day I would find a great post. The pressure was on her.
The first post I wrote for this site took me forever, I worked and worked and reworked that baby. As time is passing and more and more posts go up, I am excited to see Vision and Verb forming into a very magical place. As things start to flow, I’m finding that the nervousness is easing up, I’m feeling a bit more casual and willing just to be me.
Toni’s post this week made me think that V&V is very much like a real life gathering fueled by margaritas or coffee, a meeting up of a group of friends who have something to say. The difference, of course, is that it is very orderly here, one person speaks at a time. I can’t imagine what the noise level would be if, by some magic, we all landed in the same room. I suppose it would be deafening, we all have so much to say.
Yet here I sit today, with no wisdom to impart, no wordplay, feeling a wee bit stalled and nothing to offer but a photo that is simply one of my favourites. All I can think is that I want to say thank you, thank you for letting me be part of the gang.
Now, that's enough of the airy fairy, sappy stuff, tell me, what are your plans for the weekend? I would love to hear what you are up to. We’re having a small dinner party on Saturday night and I’m so looking forward to cooking for it. Wait, I have an idea that might help unstick me, you can help! Issue me a small challenge in your comment, a photo you think I should take, you can be vague such as suggesting a colour or very specific and suggest a subject that might send me on a bit of a treasure hunt or maybe you will challenge my knowledge of depth of field or Lightroom. I will hang my trusty Nikon around my neck like a superhero necklace, take up those challenges and show you what I’ve done next time I’m here.
Xo
Kath

This is a cute image, and I had to laugh at the spellingly correct :)
My challenge ------ a bug! And bugs aren't hard to write about, love 'em or hate 'em!
Love the thought of us all sitting around one big round table..getting to know one another thru our stories..sharing..supporting...caring. It's what makes it all the more special. Thankful to you ...and to all who are a part of this endeavor. And - the image...well it just makes me smile!! Excellent...:-)
My plans? I just decided to visit the presentation of the 3rd year students of the circus & performance academy over here in my hometown. It starts in 2 hours, I do not know what to expect, but I am looking forward to it, and I am going to bring my camera and see if I can shoot something interesting and maybe a story for v&v. My challenge for you would be: show me something you have/do over there, that we don't have/do over here. Have a great weekend!
my challenge, get me a notl photo, a greenhouse at night, workers, you know kath, a money shot. i love the magic of your little home town. i remember so well that day on the dock with the orange crocks and i cannot wait for more days and photos just like that.
You've given me a wonderful idea, Kath, which shall be shared at a later date. :) In the meantime, tomorrow I shall be judging a nearby Junior Miss program, which is a scholarship program for junior's in high school. And lest you think its a beauty pageant, it isn't, although it does have some pageant qualities, it doesn't judge on beauty and it doesn't have a swimsuit competition. It's a good way for young ladies to earn scholarship money for college. My challenge for you is to capture some of your local agriculture, because I know you have some there. :)
My plans for the weekend are to go to the local "Buttercup Festival" and later in the day entertain my 2 1/2 year old grandson. I'll try photographing the sites of the festival as well as TRY to catch my grandson still enough to photograph him. Do you have a festival you could photograph or a 2 1/2 year old you could 'catch?'
I'm glad I too am a part of this gang! I thought you did a great job Kath! I love the photo you posted. I think you should turn your camera on some strangers. I seem to feel more and more willing to ask people, I find most are so obliging. This weekend I'm getting ready for a big trip...
hi kath, sunday's just starting for me....chilly and rainy up here on the mountain, and it's probably still saturday for you? i hope you've had a good weekend so far? oh you're probably in the midst of your dinner party - photo challenge, take a picture of it? the table, hands reaching in, wine glasses catching the light; can you somehow capture the laughter, good conversation etc etc... i do that sometimes, usually with my small camera which isn't so noticeable.
It's Sunday morning for me, too, Kath, as I write this...a day off from going out-n-about here in England on our honeymoon. Yesterday we had our Shutterchance meet-up in Stratford on Avon, Shakespeare's city, with 19 of us in attendance. Since some were spouses, it was like what would happen if V&V met up, except there were more men than women. But all of us were of 'a certain age,' some even with canes. It was a fabulous time together.
I LOVE the image with this post. So adorable. You can't NOT smile when you see it. I don't know you well enough to know what would challenge you photographically but if you just kept taking images like this, you could make a book that people would buy! :)
