Lazy summer evenings
July 19, 2010 * * * * * Posted by:

Imagine that you after a long day in the sun, either working, swimming or playing sit down with your family to eat dinner on the patio. There in the shadow your whole body relaxes and you all are enjoying the food and drink in front of you. It has been to hot during the days to do anything else than swim in the lake, perhaps getting a bit of a sun tan or just sitting in the shadow with a nice book. When the night falls and it gets a bit cooler we have enjoyed the evenings on the patio with friends and perhaps an occasionally a cold beer. We have had such nights for over three weeks now.
Yesterday it all changed after a small amount of rain. Not as much as we and the farmers would like to have but still. Now the sun shines and the temperature is more “normal” for a Swedish summer. So I started the fight against weed in my flowerbeds. I think they almost had won the war before I started. After a few hours with many short brakes to talk with a neighbour, drink some water and just sitting in the grass thinking of how nice it will look when it’s done. This image is from last night when I sat on the stairs to the house with a cup of coffee looking at the water splashing from the sprinkler. I was enjoying the result of my work, just sitting there thinking of nothing and everything.
The summer has passed so fast and it is only 4 weeks until school starts again. That day is also the due date for my next grandchild. It will also be time for a crayfish party or two in mid August. So we have lots of things to look forward to. It’s important to enjoy the warmth and light during these summer days to be able to cope during the darker and colder winter.
Jag önskar er alla en riktigt härlig sommar!

Yes...summer is going by much too fast. Already - I can feel that the days are getting ever-so-slightly shorter. Gotta soak it up while we can..enjoy the light.
And - what a stunning image!!!!
You and I (and the northern States) know more about how long these summer days can be, Frida. It was not this obvious when I lived in Atlanta. But I'd go on vacation in Michigan, 850 miles to the north, and I'd see the light go way past my bedtime! I love that we're expected to slow down once summer comes and school gets out. Europe seems to do this better than most Americans who are still part of the work frenzy. I do believe our bodies, just like Mother Earth, tell us when to slow down and we need to listen. Good for you in going with this flow. We need the cooler days, though. Well, I do. I don't do well in too much heat, especially with no A/C (air conditioning). I love that you had camera in hand to take this image. I already feel so much cooler. :)
Love the warm, golden glow in your image. It looks so refreshing, but peaceful. I like how you pause to enjoy the simple things -- while "sitting there thinking of nothing and everything." :)
Thank you for your frequent visits to my blog and for leaving comments. I simply am not getting around to visit others as much as I would like while my computer is "mis-behaving." It heats up so quickly that my time on the computer is VERY limited. I expect to buy my new one in the next couple of weeks. Hallelujah!
I agree, the summer is passing so quickly. In the blink of an eye it will be autumn with a chill in the air. I think I'd better start enjoying the warmth and heat of summer before it is gone and we have to pull out the winter woolies. Gorgeous photo, Frida.
What a beautiful and colorful picture! I bet you did enjoyed your coffee and looking at your pretty yard.
Yes, you have to enjoy it while you can, soon we will be complaining of the cold, wishing it was too hot again. I need to start the fight against the weeds in my garden, we need rain, too, I will wait until it happens and they are easier to pull. Some of them are up to my waist though, they might beat me up instead! Love the photo, I could feel the cool.
feel rather wistful reading your post, and looking at the picture. reminds me of long summer evenings in england, i do miss them. here, it's winter now and so i've only just now gone into the garden to sit in the warmth of the sun (not hot). i am very inspired to create a garden at the moment, probably not here, but at the next place we end up.
