    Summer Is Coming…

For hope in the human spirit, as sustained by the human spirit, is the savior of the human spirit…

It is the only thing left when there is nothing left. We hope that our commute is light, that a blouse will be on sale, and that our bills will get paid.

We hope that our children lead fulfilling lives, our health will hold, our love will be forever.

We can do so because of the food in our pantries, the roof over our heads and the constant drumbeat of life continues outside our windows. But when there is nothing…what would sustain us when all else is gone?

But we are made whole by the one thing that will never let hope die. It is the soul. The soul is not only a beautiful thing but it’s a tangible thing, the thing in all humans that makes us separate from beasts. It is that thing in all of us that encompasses us in its entirety. And as such, it is precious.

The story of Char and her loss begs me to ask the question of myself. What would I do if I were to lose my legs, my home, my love, my life? What would I do?

It is a rhetorical question of course. No one knows until one is there. Just the mere asking is homework for us. Like ants in the summer we can prepare for winter only if we know that winter is coming. And when life brings us the inevitable heartache, loss or disappointment, our souls are prepared. We look to hope and we know; summer is coming

I like the gesture of the path, where it takes you.

What a thought-provoking post. I've often asked myself the same questions..and have always come to that same conclusion. One can never know until in those shoes...until having suffered that kind of loss personally. WOW...lots to ponder here.

And - I was expecting another 'chapter' in your story. What a surprise!!! :-)

Yes, what a surprise, Puna, to have you reflect on your own story without continuing it...unless THIS is the point: the reflection! It IS a rhetorical question and one I ponder. Why do such-and-such things happen to some people but not to me. (Maybe they could ask the same of me?) The eternal "Why do bad things happen to good people!" Every question elicits 10 more, all without answers. Some seem to get off scott free. Others seem to have more than their fair share. In the end, ours is the only life we can live...and maybe that's the secret?

    Wow. Carry on, Woman.

Hanging onto hope is one of the key ingredient to happiness, I think. And we can never know what the future holds, can never know the way another person perceives their own life.
But we walk forward down whatever path we are on, and we deal with whatever drops in our way, and the seasons change, always.
    And we hope. Yes.

In this very short(but thought provoking)post I found myself reading and re-reading several sentences. I wanted to "underline" many...

Your image. Oh my. So beautiful...and symbolic.

This is such a thought provoking post, Puna. The image you've chosen to go with it is perfect.

I agree with the others, a wonderfully thought provoking post, Puna. You had me with your first sentence. And can I just say, WOW! Your writing just keeps getting better and better and better with each post written. I wanna be you! :)
