    For a Change

autumn is a second spring when every leaf becomes a flower.   albert camus

I often wonder what it is like to live in a different climate.  Perhaps closer to the equator with the humidity, endless sunshine, torrential rains, or farther north where the days are short and the seasons are uneven, some much longer than others and some barely existent.

I live in Ontario, Canada where the seasons are very distinctive and this week, my favourite season is showing its early colours.  I look forward to those leaves, each and every one of them.  I love the beautiful photo opportunities, my down comforter, the feeling of a scarf around my neck and the first time we light the fireplace.  We walk early in the morning and lately the grass is wet with dew, the air cool and the debate the same. Do you think we will need gloves? How cold is it?   This week we have been taking a route home that allows us to buy a latte.  The coffee tastes different in the cool morning, better somehow, richer and warmer.  Like my sweaters.  I am embracing change these days.

Autumn is a nice season for us photographers, and poets as well, you mentioned it right on the spot

I - too - always wonder what it's like to live in a climate where every day is the same. And - I always find myself grateful to have the opportunity to embrace seasonal change with all its splendor and beauty.
    Gorgeous color and light!

Oh yes, Margie. Totally! I grew up in Michigan where the seasons were very distinct (back then). I loved it. Then we lived in Southern California for 12 years (San Diego and Pasadena) where the 4 seasons became more like two. The same with Atlanta, GA, where traffic stopped if ever there was one day of snow (a dusting!). I understand why people mkove from the north to the south for warmer climes. However, I'm with you! I love the change of seasons...and autumn in particular (as your image represents!). We get the change in seasons here in The Netherlands but without as much snow as I was used to in Michigan. Still, it's more like getting back to my roots and I love it.

YAY for Change. I love your title for this post.

I love the change too. I once heard a dutch celebrity say that he moved back to Holland from the caribean because he couldn't talk about the weather because it was always the same. love your picture, makes me want to get out with my camera immediatly.

I have to chime in and give my vote, and love, to fall ... my very favorite time of the year, always has been. So it was really nice to see this beautiful photo, Margie ... thanks!

Beautiful! The west coast is a little soggier than normal these day so we don't have the fall colour yet.

My first fifteen years were spent in southern California, and I agree with Ginnie, there were basically two seasons. My family moved to Nebraska, and now I'm in Washington state, and I have to admit to really enjoying the change of seasons. I noticed the other day that my neighbor's tree that hangs over into my back yard is starting to turn color. I love fall, but I'm not quite ready for it yet.

    Margie,
I too have a love for the fall season. You can see my post from yesterday (Sunday) and photos. Walking in the mountains I had
my first feel of needing a long sleave shirt and it felt wonderful. I call it "sweater weather". I begin to cover up..with sweaters
and turtlenecks(problematic with hotflashes!?!) and I begin to go inside; reading more, self introspection, shorter days, quieter mind.

Me too Margie. I would melt in a warmer climate. I love this change of weather.

i have got used to living near the equator; short evenings, humidity, torrential rains during our two rainy seasons, hot hot and too hot weather, and then that sort of in-between, like now: grey mornings, chilly up on the mountain, give way to warm and sunny afternoons - golden balmy early evenings. winds howl off the mountain during the night and the temperatures plummet. we're just heading out of winter and into our summer, but the short rains are about to hit. was your pic taken with a macro lens?? I have just bought one, have perhaps succeeded with one or two similar to yours - in terms of depth of field - but am somewhat struggling.

I have always lived in an area that experienced four distinct seasons. For years, fall was my least favorite of the seasons. In retirement and with a camera that has totally changed! I now LOVE fall -- especially when it's complete with all of those wonderful things you mentioned!

Love the detail of your leaf and the softness of the background. Nice image.

Love that quote it's so true. I also love having four seasons in a year. They all have their charm.
