    Zen of the Ocean

It is summer time and we like to spend our summer holidays at the seaside or near the Ocean. It feels good to be near the water. I like listening to the waves, sitting on a rock, breathing in the pure scents of pine trees and watching the seagulls looking for food near the fish boats. I just sit there with no particular thoughts in my mind. And it feels great! Time stops, worries stop, nothing disturbs the inner peace.

Hmmm, it sounds like Zen, doesn’t it? I call it Zen of the Ocean.

Look at the Ocean and you will see that the Ocean is:

    deep and calm…
In the deep depths of the Ocean, you can find peace and calmness, even when there’s a big drama going on on the surface. Dive in and you will not know about the chaos and noise up there. Dive in and you will feel like the time has stopped.

    rhythmic…
Ocean has its own rhythm and flow. It is never still. It is active, it moves. The waves polish sharp rocks and create little pebbles, beautiful lagoons. Slowly, in its own rhythm, it shapes its shores the way it wants.

    transparent…
Ocean is transparent. From a distance it doesn’t look like it is transparent, but if you get closer, you can see through the water. Nothing is hidden from you if you are willing to take a closer look.

    alive…
So many things are going on in the Ocean. Many busy creatures are living there, doing their ‘job’, keeping it clean and alive. It is a home for various species. They live there the way they want it, but have had to adjust a little to the Ocean ‘rules’ as well.

You can be that Ocean, too! Really!
If our body consists of 60% of water (babies even 75%), we actually carry our Ocean inside us! You are the Ocean! Isn’t that something??

You can keep calm, even when lots is going on on the surface.
You can follow your own rhythm and polish your sharpness slowly and with persistence.
You can be transparent and there’s no need to hide yourself from those, who try hard enough to see through your surface.
You can be alive! You can let your cells do their job and make your body clean and alive. But you have to adjust a bit too – giving your cells enough water to make them happy and let them ‘swim’ in your Ocean...

You are the Ocean! I hope you will have a super great summer while listening to your inner waves…

What a beautiful metaphor. I don't think I've ever thought of our bodies as vessels and bodies of water - but of course they are!! So much food for thought here...and such a peaceful 'zen' like image!

My summer will have to come from within myself, the weather is not working for me at the moment. But I will make it a nice summer, I promised myself that

This is absolutely beautiful, Jozica. I love how you have pulled it all together and made it a perfect metaphor. They say our brains are 70% water, which is the same percentage of water on earth. So the parallel becomes even more astonishing, the more you think about it!

Wonderful! It explains the tides and storms of our emotional ups and downs as well!

There something about closing your eyes and hearing the lapping waves and the sea gulls. Then you open them and see the infinity of it against the sky.

Beautiful image Jozica. The connection of the ocean inside of us is profound. Living in the high desert, you've given me a taste of water!!

I love the ocean. It is so rejuvenating. I have a coffee cup that I bought while vacationing at the ocean one year that says "I go to the sea to breathe" and that is exactly so for me. Wonderful post, wonderful metaphor.

I love the image that I am the ocean. If I only didn't look like a whale...

So lovely, the Zen of the Ocean, just perfect. I have never been a water person, not a great swimmer, etc, but I love to sit on the shore and watch and listen. You have described perfectly all that lies within that attraction. So glad to see you here!

Thank you, everyone. It's good to know that we 'find' the same inspirations & feelings next to the oceans or water in general.

This reminds me of something I am craving so much right now: to be by the sea. I wait patiently until school term is over, until I get time to be alone and to escape the city. What a great experience and lucky you! :)

Images like the one you've painted with the ocean can be so strengthening. Whenever I visit California, I have to make a trip to the ocean and listen to the waves and feel the sand under my feet. The ocean gives me such a boost of energy and makes me feel how big, yet connected our world is.
