I can explain ...

... I had no intention for this to be a post about Autumn, honest. We ’ve all had and done our share of the beauty of the season and the glorious images to go along with it but by the time you see this one on the weekend, it will pretty much be over around here. The photo was taken during the middle of the week, a beautiful, perfect Fall day. The next day was still in the 80’s. By Friday we will have a very different reality,
with low clouds, freezing drizzle, possibly snow in areas, highs in the 30’s. And alot of the leaves won’t make it so that’s why I wanted to show you this image. There will be some more milder days ahead but it won’t look quite so beautiful.
We’re always thrilled to make it to this time of the year. Not only do we get to gaze at the beauty of the
golden trees and Colorado blue sky but there is also the peacefulness and the quieter spaces. On our walks now we are starting to see couples who look like us. It’s the time of year when the very large and loud families go home and the retirees show up. The folks who know how to share the sidewalks and offer a smile and hello as they pass, who even make eye contact! Who ask you about your town instead of taking it over. There’s a better possibility of running into friends and neighbors again and having conversations. We can get a bench in the park and appreciate the sun on our faces, sigh deeply and just ... be.
I do love the change of seasons and some of what each one brings and seriously hope I can remember that this winter!

I will say it time and time again Autumn is my favourite season, and I am l so happy you posted this beautiful photograph Susan. Those leaves are simply gorgeous
Here, in Vancouver, BC we are having such a warn beginning of season, it still feels somehow like the end of the Summer. The trees are still quite green and they are not forecasting any rain for a while. I have to be honest though, even if I love Autumn I am glad it is still ways away ;-)
You could show me a capture of autumn every day and I would NEVER get tired of seeing the beauty that this season offers us! Fabulous! Stay warm!
Autumn is my favorite time of the year, too, so you know this image rocks my boat, Susan. WOWSER. And to think it can come and go so quickly for you...with snow now in the air.
I know you live with mixed emotions about the two sides of your life there...when you can take your town back and breathe freely with your neighbors, getting ready for the onslaught of tourists next year--the ones who will hopefulluy buy all your goodies. (sigh) What a life! Enjoy your freedoms now while you have them.
What absolutely gorgeous color!! It's such a short season - or the 'color' part of it is - that it's almost impossible not to stand up and take notice and write about it. I can only imagine how beautiful it must be in and among the Colorado mountain landscape.
Enjoy every breathtaking moment!
Autumn is my favourite time of year as well. It always feels to me to be the quietest season, and one which makes it easy to live in the moment. And you could post a photograph like this one each and every day and hear no complaints from me. That gold positively glows. Mega thanks.
Gorgeous!!!!!!! that is something i do miss here, the proper changing of the seasons. I suppose I can't complain too much at the moment as we have all the purple jacaranda's in bloom - pretty stunning.
What an incredibly beautiful image. One to pull out in the mid-winter months just to remember such vivid sunshiny color. Can't help but put a smile on your face. I can only imagine how these colors drape against the beautiful blue Colorado skies. Thanks for sharing!!
When I was teaching, autumn would too often just pass by without me having the time - or taking the time - to notice. It was just too busy of a time of year with the start of each new school year. Now in retirement I am discovering just how much I missed all those years; the beauty of the season. I loved how you described the difference between the 'large and loud families and the retirees. My husband and I often comment about that as well.
Beautiful image, Susan.
When you wrote of the "loud" families replaced by those who can now just take their time and quietly enjoy the scenery, I thought immediately of our recent walk in the woods that I wrote about here. It is so true that the change of season, from summer to fall, makes a difference in the crowd.
Like many others who have commented already, I love fall as well. Images like this one of the fiery yellow foliage never seem to bore me, they just take my breath away. Such stunning colors!
Delightful, I love the warm colours of autumn.
That settling back into your own community feeling that you speak of so well here is lovely. Yes, there are plenty of posts about autumn and its glories, but we cannot be reminded too often to sit down and breathe.
"Love loveth best of all the year
October's bright blue weather." - Helen Hunt Jackson
I love that poem and see October's bright blue sky through the brilliant yellow and golden leafy treetop you've captured here. Spectacular!
Fabulous photo
Can there ever be too many photos of beautiful autumn gold? This is lovely, I like the sense of settling in, slowing down. Autumn has always been my favorite season. I live in a tiny tourist town in the Finger Lakes, and I can so relate to what you are saying. It is a whole different town in the summer than in the winter. We'll have to all remind each other that the seasons do change later this winter!!
It is a most beautiful photo and I will never be tired of seeing photos like these!
I never tire of seeing such images of wonder and color! And I can empathise with the sentiments of "getting your own place back"!
It's the same here on Long Island. After THAT weekend in September when they officially declare Summer over, the Hamptons empty, the beaches are bare and we can again walk and enjoy the local peace and beauty uninterrupted!
Magical. Appears like a cloak made of gold. Now that is the wonder of nature right there!
Since I live in an area that no one wants to visit, I've never experienced the tourists coming and going, = D I'm glad you now have your peaceful, community times.
Our weather went from gorgeous to a freeze that killed off my garden even though I tried to save it with tarps and blankets. Sigh... Now I'm hoping for lots of snow this winter. If it's going to be cold, it can at least be pretty with the white stuff (plus we need the moisture to make up for the lack of rain).
As for so many, autumn is my favorite season of the year. Never is there so much eye-candy to see as during these few months, with still warm days but crisp nights and pretty cold mornings. It is the best.
My absolute favorite time of year Susan. There is something so magical about the turning of the leaves. It feels so organic and correct. And I know what you mean, living in Santa Fe I usually am never in the plaza area but now it's where I work and there are swarms of tourists all over. Still, I feel very blessed!
