    painted niches

Regardless of how many times I walk through the subterranean Arcade of the Bethesda Terrace in Central Park, the shear beauty of this structure overwhelms me.  As much as the ornate and magnificent tile ceiling captures the majority of the attention, it's the painted niches that flank the walls underneath that seem to whisper…look at me, look at me, don't forget about me!  Regardless of where these types of structures are in the world, we should give thanks to all those individuals and organizations who see the value of saving these precious gems for future generations to come.  Bravo to the Central Park Conservancy for saving this beauty!

Anyone who can paint like this and make it look "real" gets my kudos, Robin. I have seen a lot of painted marble in churches here that looks like real marble. It amazes me. So, yes, BRAVO to places like your beloved Central Park Conservancy. Your image is delightful.

What exquisite detail! Thru your lens - it looks like an ancient painting. And - yes - so thankful to those who work to save and preserve our history!

Less obvious treasures whisper to you? Me too! What a beautiful photo of a spot well deserving our attention.
